A Perfect Honeymoon Get-Away Experience the magic and allure of Bali by *The Blushing Bride* A Holistic Honeymoon If you are planning an unforgettable island honeymoon which has splashes of romance, fun in the sun, adventure, luxurious pampering, living culture and even shopping, then Bali would be just the place for you. Although known infamously as a surfer’s paradise and a party haven, Bali is so much more than that as different parts of the island have different characteristics to suit the varied personalities of its visitors. To fully enjoy the island as newlyweds, I would recommend the middle path – a couple of days of adventure, exploring Bali and a couple of days to relax, unwind and reconnect with your partner. That way you will be able to enjoy the best experiences that Bali has to offer. Must Do’s in Bali I recommend newlyweds to start their honeymoon with some sightseeing and the best way to do that is to hire a local tour guide. Rest assured that most tour guides in Bali are fluent in English and will be able to provide you with historical and cultural information about the different parts of Bali so that you will be able to better understand the Balinese people and its peaceful culture. Your tour guide will also be able to craft out a personalised itinerary for the both of you according to your preferences. Some of the hotspots in Bali that you should consider visiting are as follows: Jimbaran Bay - One of the most famous spots in Bali is Jimbaran Bay which is renowned for beach activities, sunsets and fresh seafood. Lake Beratan - Take a relaxing stroll around the gardens and lake in the highlands and soak in the serenity. Lake Beratan is also home to the famous Ulun Danu Temple which seems to float on the surface of the lake. Tanah Lot - An awesome place to watch the sunset in Bali would be in Tanah Lot - it is advisable to go earlier to snag a good place to watch the sun set. Also a very good place to shop (don’t forget to bargain!).
Uluwatu - Located at the southernmost tip of Bali, Uluwatu is another awesome place to watch the sunset. You can also watch the famous Kecak Dance at Uluwatu. Be really really careful of your belongings such as earrings, sunglasses and etc. as there are many monkeys around. Lake Batur - For a unique lunch facing a volcano, visit Lake Batur and the volcanic Mount Batur @ Kintamani.
Kayuamba Village - If you are a coffee lover, don’t forget to try the traditional Bali "Luwak" coffee and enjoy the different tea, fruits and spices. Pura Kehen - If you want to visit a temple in Bali, visit the Pura Kehen - The Temple of Fire in Bangli. The temple grounds are just so beautiful and serene. For newlyweds who are not keen to sight see and would rather be outdoors doing outdoorsy activities like surfing, white water rafting and diving, your tour guide can also recommend the best places for you to pursue your interests as well. Most nights in Bali are quiet unless you are in the Kuta or Jimbaran areas where you can find plenty of night clubs, beachfront cafes and quaint bars if you fancy a drink or would like to get your party shoes on! The heart and soul of Bali Now, after say 3 days of playing tourist, doing outdoorsy activities and partying the night away, leave the hustle and bustle of the tourist spots and slow down a little and enter into the heart in Bali, Ubud. Home to generations of Hindu refugees, Bali’s Hinduism culture can be seen by the colourful offerings of flowers, the lingering smell of incense in the air and the numerous temples and shrines around Ubud. Ubud is also distinctly different from Kuta and various other places in Bali simply because it does not have any beaches and is more inland surrounded by picturesque rice fields and rolling green rice terraces. A suggestion for the newlyweds would be to take a stroll along the rice fields and terraces with your partner as it will be an experience I am sure the both of you will treasure. There is such simplicity in walking hand in hand revelling in the beauty of your surroundings. Sharing simple moments like this will make your honeymoon so much more memorable.
Besides the padi fields and temples, Ubud is also home to painters, wood and stone carvers and handicraft and jewellery designers. A little ways out of the main Ubud area, you will see rows of shops offering wood carvings, pretty mosaic mirrors, vibrant paintings, beaded slippers, stone statues and a whole host of other knick knacks. This would be a good place to buy some interior design pieces for your home! There are also museums and art galleries that you visit to view all kinds of artwork from modern and traditional paintings, to sculptures, to photography and all other kinds of art. The Ubud market is also a good place to visit. Browse through the different stalls selling artwork, clothes, souvenirs and the like and if you feel adventurous, try some local food side stalls but remember to always bargain! If you like to listen to traditional gamelan orchestras (Balinese percussions and gongs) or watch Wayang Kulit (shadow puppet play) or graceful Balinese dancers perform the local kecak, legong and barong dances, you can also catch them at various locations in Ubud such as the Ubud Palace, Oka Kartini and Pura Dalem. To wind down after walking and exploring Ubud, relax and unwind in one of the many spa havens dotted around Ubud. Enjoy the pampering treatments such as flower baths, cream or milk baths and traditional Balinese massages. Some spas also offer manicures, pedicures and facials. Going for a spa session together will help calm your body and soul as well as help you relax and soothe your tired muscles. After spending several days around Bali, newlyweds should feel excited about the different places visited as well as relaxed by the serenity that Bali offers. Hopefully, the magic in Bali will live on in your marriage even after the honeymoon is over.
